The impressive Temple of Abu Simbel is located some 175 miles from Aswan. Pharaoh Ramesses II, Known as Ramesses The Great, commissioned this temple complex in the 13th Century BCE. The small temple of Abu Simbel is dedicated  to Nefertari, favorite wife of Rameses II.
The walls of the Ramesses Temple is decorated with sculpted scenes from the pharaoh's life.

❤️1290-1224 BCE: Abu Simbel was constructed.
❤️March 22, 1813: The temple was rediscovered by the Swiss orientalist Johann Ludwig Burckhardt (1784-1817)
❤️1817: Abu Simbel was excavated for the first time.
❤️1960-1971: Construction of the Aswan Dam took place
❤️1964-1968: The Abu Simbel temple complex was successfully relocated.
