❤️1924: British climbers Mailory and Irivne attempted to reach the summit. Both dies on the descent, whether or not they reached the top is a matter of debate.
❤️1953: Hilary and Norgay were the first to reach the summit. 
❤️1960: A Chinese expedition reached the summit via the northern route.
❤️1978: Messner and Habeler were the first to reach the summit without supplementary oxygen.
❤️1980: Messener reached the top on a solo expedition, again without the use of supplementary oxygen.
❤️1980: A Polish expedition was the first to summit during the winter using the south saddle route.
❤️1996: Disaster struck a number of expeditions, leaving 15 dead.
❤️2004: The Sherpa Pema Dorje broke the record for fastest summit when he made it to the top from base camp in just over 8 hours.
